You get 9 attacks flying your way, let's say that 5 of them hit. Let's say you fight a horde of WS4, Str4 lads. Yet, you are WS5 with a now 4+ armor save, and your opponent might not know about your rune before it is too late. On the point of not getting to use the rune when being killed by a Rank and File with higher initiative - sure, it might happen. P59 "a.runic item is no different from a magic item, and all the usual rules for magic items still apply. All the rules that apply to the possession and use of magic items also apply to runic items."īlasted Grugni's back bum beard! Ah well. It does however making him wound on a 2+ instead of a 3+ when fighting most characters (T5), and he might be able to put that last wound on a Character that frees up your other Hammerers attacks to focus on something else. Giving the Champion the Rune of Might makes him Str 8, which might be overkill when facing most enemies. Parrying and using him as a mini tank for one's General could be nice, but since all Hammerers can take a challenge in place of the General I think that it is not really earning back it's points if you are just looking to hold a killy character up. Since they have such a high weapon skill I believe that I do not need my foes to fail a fear check to be able to whack 'em silly over the head, but it is nice ofc to up my odds. Swiftness makes him strike at I 2, which could be nice but most champion will still get to hit him before that. Hmm, the Grudge rune might be nice, but you have to declare it at the beginning of the game so it won't be such a stealthy move against a wizard. What do you guys think?īut does it state anywhere that a Runic Weapon is a Magic Weapon, hence we cannot parry with them? I think that the Rune of Might might be better in this case. I am bringing 2k and so is my friend, we are fighting a 4k dwarf list. On Saturday I am teaming up with a lizardmen player to fight against a dwarf player. That can be nice against big blocks of regen-savers since he gets to strike first with his Runic hand weapon before the rest of the lads get to strike (on the now burning unit). So that makes him Str 8 when fighting characters and monsters, which can be a nasty surprise for some, striking at Ini 2.Īnother combo could be giving him Rune of Fire and maybe another cheap rune.

I don't believe that his usual Great Weapon gets the Runic Upgrade, is this why Hammerers have the Shield Wall special rule, mayhaps? I reckon that he can take a Rune of Might, but that he then uses his (now) runic hand weapon (and now fights with his shield, since he has one). A Champion in a unit of Hammerers may take a Runic Weapon worth up to 25pts.
